People allow many sources to manipulate them everyday in society. The media and magazines can manipulate the views of what people should wear on a daily basis. But this is only one minor example of how the world manipulates people. Schools are a major form of child manipulation. The way schools educate children is to force a belief set onto the youth and force them to memorize and repeat the facts until they are fully memorized.

There are many ways that people allow themselves to be manipulated. Someone who has a friend who causes guilt on the other person, who in return complies with the friends' request, is being manipulated. The internet manipulates people in their everyday life and so do family members or those who are intimidating or persistent. Media is one of the main manipulators these days due to all of the 'hot gossip' or new 'it' styles and trends that it holds.

Many people allow their rights to be taken away to ensure that they are safe, making them easy to manipulate. I think one of the greatest reasons for this is fear. If assulted with threats and implications, people will become frightened, and therefore become more easy to control. Other people try to guilt another into doing their bidding; making them feel as if they owe it to the perpetrator to do as they say. This is a devious method of control that destroys relationships.

But their are also a select few that are manipulated by what goes on around them. This especially happens when they see something and automatically what that too and do not care what happens in the process. Then there are times when people are "walked all over" by someone else and they just do not care because tehy either look up to that person of they think that person is to important to disobey.

People will believe anything that they see on tv, the news, the internet, and other media sources because they want to believe it. People also allow themselves to be manipulated by potential friends. For example, if someone wants to become part of a certain social group, he/she will act like the people in that group, even if that is not how he/she usually acts.

There are several reasons why people may allow themselves to be manipulated. They may feel peer pressure; if everyone he knows is doing a certain thing or following a certain person, they may not want to stand out. They may also feel that "going with the flow" is a less risky option than defying the social norm. In many totalitarian societies, not following the rules tends to have severe consequences. People living under those circumstances may decide that disobeying the government is not worth the consequences and allow themselves to be manipulated in order to avoid punishment. Finally, some people may not realize that they are being manipulated. They willingly accept everything that is told to them and do not think enough for themselves to realize that what they are doing is not right. dManipulation will always occur to some degree.

Today people have access to tons of information but some information that is given out if only one-sided and if a person does not look into the other side. In order to have a personal opinions people need to know what arguments are being made and what both sides of an arguments is.

Money is capable of manipulating people. It has the capabilty of becoming people's only desire. People have been known to work hours on end and make decisions which put their lives at risk just to make a profit. One can assume the reason that people allow money to take over their lives manipulate them is because they feel more power. This makes them easy targets for manipulation as they are more likely to accept what they are told. An uninformed person can be easily convinced to take any stance on a particular subject. When one cannot choose their side or choses not to, others will make the choice for them. If that is done, then the person who didn't make their voice heard will have no power. One good reason is that some people do not wish to take the blame if their idea or plan goes wrong. Another reason could be due to the flaw humans have of being lazy. The last reason could be one that goes against human nature; this would be if one or many lives would be in threatened or dangered.

In this book, it shows that people who are ruled by more powerful people. We tend to conform to those who hold more power over us. People allow themselves to be manipulated because they may be insecure and have a need for guidance. Many times in history have we seen periods of crisis and the people need leadership. They are willing to give their loaylty to anyone with a way out i.e Adolf Hitler and Germany. Another example would be the milgram experiment.
